An athlete’s diet is influenced by external and internal factors that can reduce or exacerbate exercise-induced food intolerance/allergy symptoms. This review highlights many factors that influence food choices. However, it is important to remember that these food choices are dynamic, and their effectiveness varies with the time, location, and environmental factors in which the athlete chooses the food. Therefore, before training and competition, athletes should follow the recommendations of physicians and nutritionists. It is important to study and understand the nutritional strategies and trends that athletes use before and during training or competitions. This will identify future clinical trials that can be conducted to identify specific foods that athletes can consume to minimize negative symptoms associated with their consumption and optimize training outcomes.

Sports nutrition degrees
Most employers hire sports nutritionists that have proven occupational proficiency by completing an undergraduate degree in a career-related major such as nutrition, exercise science, sports nutrition, kinesiology, food science and dietetics. However, sports nutritionists that complete graduate or post-graduate education often attract a greater volume of employers and clients alike.

Lastly, a sports nutritionist works with clients to develop a post-performance routine to help rebuild depleted resources. This stage brings all the previous stages together – meal planning, analysis of lifestyle, evaluating results, and so forth – to help the athlete reach his or her goals and do so while maintaining their health and managing the effects of such intense physical output on their bodies.

The frequency of testing is the key difference between Informed Sport & Informed Choice. Before a product can be sold, Informed Sport tests each batch. Informed Choice tests its products monthly on a blind test schedule.
Blind testing is also required for each product certified (typically 4 times per year). This ensures the product’s integrity. Blind samples are bought by the Informed Sport administrator from retail outlets.
Each batch will be tested against Informed Sport’s standards via paper-based assessment; once this stage of the program has been successfully completed, they will be awarded certification and can use the Informed Sport logo on their packaging.
